SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL IS HAPPENING IN STONY POINT
Picture this: A sunny Monday evening at Stony Point Park in western Bastrop County, Texas. Tables are scattered across the green space, buzzing with life. At one table, wide-eyed kids and their parents lean in as they discover that a butterfly remembers its caterpillar days —but it’s now a completely new creation. Just like that, when someone steps into life with Christ, the old fades away, and the new bursts forth in vibrant color! The week before, those same kids became little ambassadors, handing out paper hearts scribbled with “Jesus Loves You” to everyone enjoying the park. Smiles, hugs, and curious questions followed —seeds of hope planted in the simplest way.
Across the way, three more tables hum with adult conversations. One group chats entirely in Spanish, voices rising with excitement. Everyone shares stories: how they passed on last week’s Bible truth to a friend, a relative, a coworker—and the conversations that sparked. Laughter mixes with thoughtful nods, testimonies flow freely, and you can feel the energy of real change in the air.
This isn’t just any community gathering. This is Stony Point, an unincorporated neighborhood near Del Valle that’s long carried a heavy reputation. For years, residents have called it a “dumping ground”—for illegal trash, stray animals, and sadly, far more serious troubles that left the area feeling overlooked and burdened.
Yet right in the heart of it all, Feed the Need Missions has shown up every Monday evening for nearly six years. What began as a weekly hot meal — burgers, lemonade, and friendly faces — created an oasis of safety and care. Volunteers mowed overgrown grass, helped build a playground, and consistently showed up when many others didn’t. But something even more powerful has shifted recently: the spiritual heartbeat is beating stronger than ever. As one longtime volunteer put it so perfectly, “The burger is finally just a tool.”
So what’s sparking this exciting transformation? It’s a beautiful combination of intentional steps rooted in love and faithfulness.
Trusted relationships are at the core. More and more volunteers have come from the community itself or have deep ties here. When locals lead and serve alongside neighbors, trust grows naturally — no outsiders imposing, just friends walking together.
A special focus on kids and families. A dedicated husband-and-wife team poured energy into vibrant children’s programming during Table Talk — think weekly Vacation Bible School vibes, but welcoming every age. As kids showed up excited, moms followed, then whole families. The joy is contagious!
A thoughtful, customized Table Talk curriculum. This isn’t top-down teaching; it’s interactive disciple-making happening right at the tables. Site guests join volunteers as equals. Every week includes:
- A simple, bite-sized Biblical truth (like Matthew 11:30’s reminder that His yoke is
easy). - An easy “homework” challenge — share one part of the message with someone in
your life (James 1:22 calls us to be doers of the word!). - The next week, everyone reports back — what happened? What conversations opened up? (Matthew 28:19a reminds us to be obedient disciples.)
Each table has a Table Leader who gently guides, prioritizing participation over preaching. Everyone gets to speak, share, and encourage. Starting with praise, each Table Talk kicks off with everyone sharing their name and one thing they’re thankful for from the past week. It shifts hearts to notice God’s fingerprints everywhere — turning ordinary days into moments of wonder.
This is more than a meal ministry. It’s a movement of hope rising in a place that desperately needs it. Stony Point is awakening to something new: communities where people feed one another physically and spiritually, where old labels fade, and new life takes root.
If you’re nearby, come see it for yourself next Monday at Stony Point Park (121 Stony Creek Dr, Del Valle). Volunteer, bring a friend, or just show up with an open heart. Because something wonderful is happening here—and it’s only getting started. Let’s keep praying, showing up, and watching God move.
The best is yet to come!
